My name is Jason Greer and I would like to welcome you and your child to the 2021 Spring baseball season for Loudoun South Little League. I will be your manager for the IR Texas Tech Red Raiders. I managed a t-ball team this last fall. Phil Pullen was one of my assistant coaches in the fall and he'll be helping out again. We're out here to teach your kids what we can based on their ability level. We want every kid to enjoy this great game and want to play next season. They'll have their whole baseball career to worry about stats and all the things that come with this game the longer you play. We're going to have fun. I am looking forward to meeting you and your ball player.
The schedule is still being finalized and will be posted to our team website soon. There will be no activities during Spring Break (March 27 - April 4). They are targeting to get practices started in late March and games will begin with Opening Day on April 10. Please make sure your medical waiver and concussion forms are completed before our first practice.
At our first practice, your child should have a glove, cleats, hat, protective cup, bat, and plenty of water to drink. Little League only allows bats with the USA BASEBALL stamp/certification on them. Per COVID-19 regulations, please tell your child to keep their equipment to themselves.
As the Red Raiders, our color scheme for games will be red jersey, gray pants, black belt, and black socks.
The league will provide our game hats and jerseys, but parents are responsible for purchasing game pants, a game belt, and game socks. Dick's Sporting Goods is holding a "Gear Up For The Season" event from March 13-15 and you can get 20% off your purchase. This is a great opportunity to pick up our team apparel. Last year I got my son's belt and socks from Amazon.
Volunteers are needed! I need assistant coaches to help run practices and games smoothly. In my experience, it takes 4-6 coaches to adequately run a team. Having those extra hands ensures each child gets the appropriate attention. It is also a lot easier to work with the kids for certain drills when we split them up into smaller groups, allowing them to focus more on the drill. I also need a "COVID Coach" who will make sure the kids practice social distancing whenever they are in the dugout area, ensure COVID questionnaires are turned in, and help squirt sanitizer on the players' hands when they are done at activities. If you are interested, here is a link to the LSLL volunteer form: https://www.leagueathletics.com/Registration/Restrictions.asp?RegID=276223&org=loudounsouthlittleleague. Please let me know if you plan to fill it out and I'll help make sure we complete everything to make your volunteering "official".
This is a lot of information, so if you have any questions, you can reach me either at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 717-968-4368.
Here's to a fun season.
